MIND-BODY MEDICINE
"Many ancient cultures assumed that the mind exerts powerful influences on bodily functions and vice versa. Attempts to reassert proper harmony between these bodily systems led to the development of mind-body medicine, an array of
approaches that incorporate spiritual, meditative, and relaxation techniques.
ALTERNATIVE MEDICAL SYSTEMS
Whereas the ancient Greeks postulated that health requires a balance of vital humors, Asian cultures considered that health depends on the balance and flow of vital energies through the body. This latter theory underlies the practice of
acupuncture, for example, which asserts that vital energy flow can be restored by placing needles at critical body
points.
ENERGY THERAPY
This approach uses therapies that involve the use of energy—either biofield- or bioelectromagnetic-based interventions. An example of the former is Reiki therapy, which aims to realign and strengthen healthful energies through the intervention of energies radiating from the hands of a master healer.
BIOLOGICALLY BASED PRACTICES
These include use of a vast array of vitamins and mineral supplements, natural products such as chondroitin sulfate, which is derived from bovine or shark cartilage; herbals, such as ginkgo biloba and echinacea; and unconventional
diets, such as the low-carbohydrate approach to weight loss espoused by the late Robert Atkins.
MANIPULATIVE AND BODY BASED APPROACHES
These kinds of approaches, which include massage, have been used throughout history. In the 19th century, additional
formal manipulative disciplines emerged in the United States: chiropractic medicine and osteopathic medicine. Both originated in an attempt to relieve structural forces on vertebrae and spinal nerve roots that practitioners perceived as evoking a panoply of illnesses beyond mere musculoskeletal pain."

HEALING WITH LIGHT ENERGY
"Photonic stimulation is like "Star Trek" medicine. This powerful, effective, safe, and affordable technology is revolutionizing medical treatment for pain, many neurological disorders, and a wide variety of musculoskeletal and soft tissue maladies. Many health problems
that had previously been notoriously difficult or even impossible to successfully manage can now benefit from photonic stimulation.
Photon generating devices
Photon generating devices used for medical therapy include lasers, light emitting diodes (LEDS), and infrared mosaic arrays. Lasers have the potential of damaging soft tissues because their output is concentrated into a small intense beam of energy and the frequency band available is narrow. Standard LEDS, on the other hand, are much weaker and lack sufficient energy output to be used as individual
devices. Infrared mosaic arrays, such as are used in Bales Scientific's Photonic Stimulator, have the unique advantage of high output power of infrared energy over a relatively large treatment area. They are safe because their energy output falls off rapidly with treatment distance.
Applications of photonic stimulation in clinical practice.
Some examples of common conditions we've had success using photonic stimulation include:
*
Diabetic and other neuropathies
* Sports and other
injuries
*
Plantar fasciitis
* Cervical and lumbar disc disease
* TMJ
headaches
* Repetitive stress injuries
* Reflex sympathetic
dystrophy
* Neuropathic pain
* Bell's palsy
* Burns, cuts, and
contusions
* Postoperative pain
* Fibromyalgia
* Carpal tunnel
syndrome
* Osteoarthritis

TAI CHI INTEGRATING THE WISDOM OF SENSES
Tai Chi does not necessarily denote oriental wisdom though its origin can be traced centuries ago in China. It integrates the wisdom of your senses, balancing the body and mind together. As we demand of Tai Chi the meaning of its vision, we see though it comes as the shorter version of Tai Chi Chuan whose denotation is “Supreme Ultimate Fist.” Its derivation comes from a series of Kung Fu techniques whose applicability lies as both a therapeutic activity and as an approach to self defense. People of any shape can pursue this as it does not have any physical fitness as its prerequisite. But to be able to focus and attentive while performing it is imperative. Attentiveness and alertness are the preconditions to perform Tai Chi.
Tai Chi can be symbolized as both martial arts and an exercise. It involves movements designed for health benefits, but it also necessitates the self-defense aspects of the form. To get the best of both worlds, self-defense and exercise, Tai Chi comes with an enlightened wealth for you. This martial art is characterized by soft movements and relaxes in a gentler way compared to other martial arts which begins to be soothing. Tai Chi comprises of slow, continuous movements that involves the whole body. The movements are intrinsically linked together in “forms” while unified with controlled breathing and mental focus. Chinese medicine postulates that movement and breathing are designed to stimulate the flowing of qi (chee) that denotes life energy which in turn improves health and vitality. One who practices is able to promote the balance and harmony of the universal yin and yang, balance between the two opposites. Tai Chi can be viewed as a type of “qigong” that can be seen as “energy work” which comprises coordinated breathing, slow movement, and awareness. It brings all these into a smooth unison and the outcome is a beautiful balance between the extremities. Certain elements of qigong are incorporated in Tai Chi but qigong practiced alone, is centered on meditation and healing and involves sitting or lying exercises. But to master Tai Chi, the movements are taught while you are in a standing position. The gentler movements are practiced in a more upright stance and they led to mind-body benefits, improved physical condition, stress reduction, relief and relaxation. Tai Chi can be beautifully described as ‘meditation in motion’ but may well be described as ‘medication in motion’ according to a Harvard Medical School report. According to several published researches, the improved balance leads to a fall reduction among the elderly people, better pain management and improved functioning in those with an arthritis condition. With the rise of evidence, Tai Chi also holds promising possibilities for patients recovering from hypertension, osteoporosis, sleep problem, anxiety and depression.
How arthritis is relieved…Osteoarthritis is known to be a prevalent joint disorder impacting millions and millions of people. Rheumatoid arthritis affects many of them and the symptoms are manifested through difficulty in walking and grasping, balance problems, muscle weakness, joint stiffness and pain. Promising Tai Chi has been noted as the widely studied mind-body exercise for the effective management of arthritis. Improvement in daily living activities is noted and quality of life for individuals. Randomized trials have reported that there has been an improvement in the knee muscle tolerance, increased bone mineral density, pain reduction, enhancement in physical functioning, a higher quality of life, and reduced fear of falling in elderly people with osteoarthritis. As the upper and lower body moves gently and smoothly, those movements become easy on the joints while strengthening the muscles simultaneously. As per the reports of a study, the leg muscle functions have seen an improvement, an amelioration in the overall physical condition and a confidence has been noted in balance and movement in daily living and exercise.
Tai Chi has a mind body emphasis that can uplift the mental health while significantly improving the psychological well- being in individuals with sound health as well as patients with pre- existing chronic conditions. Tai Chi was headlined in the New York Times after the depression symptoms had seen a marked improvement in elderly people and its positive effects stems from the combination of physical exercise, breathing exercise and socialization with other participants. There are gentle and arthritis Tai Chi classes that offer emotional health as well as physical fitness benefits for elderly people grappling with depression. Whereas or the physically active younger clients who are not confined by any limitations, active and hard-driving Tai Chi classes are offered at martial arts facilities, yoga centers and gyms.
THE TAI CHI PRINCIPLES
Straightening the head…Stand in a straight position, and let your neck relax and gradually suspend your head which is in an erect position without feeling strained or tensed. The picture you can hold onto inside your head is by imagining yourself hanging by means of a string from the topmost point of your head. It needs to be done in a way that the head and neck align purely by the gravitational force.
Accurate position of the back and chest…The chest needs to be kept slightly suppressed inwards which aids a person’s breath to sink to the lower abdomen. The upper portion of the back is slightly arched outward as the pelvis is eased under.
Stay relaxed without being tensed…Let yourself relax and let the joints loosen up, especially the shoulders and elbows so they become flexible. In the process, as there becomes room for flexibility, the joints become connected and this connection enables them to integrate into the proper structure. The correct structure is maintained with a minimal muscular activity as gravity pulls them down. It empowers them from the root to the ground. Through Tai Chi, energy is transferred in the form of a vibration which involves no stress or tension. With the relaxation of joints and musculature, there comes the proper alignment and the connection comes into force. With the attainment of the relaxation, alignment and connection, the pulse of the movement is conducted through them without any tension.
Maintenance of harmony between the upper and lower parts of body….Any vibration that originates at the Tai Chi movement stems from the foot and is released from the legs, is controlled by the waist and the movement occurs eventually through the arms and back and ultimately is expressed by the fingers. To attain such a coordination, it is required that at all times, the feet remain anchored to the ground like the roots of a tree. But the flexibility is to remain at the knees. The upper and lower bodies must be harmonized so they are strung together without any room for break.
There is motion prevalent in stillness and stillness is attained in motion. While achieving this, the foot needs to be maintained in a flat position, like it sinks into the ground with the entire foot, not merely its edges. The Tan tien (the center of our energy body and our physical body) needs to be centered upon. Like a pendulum in a swing, the movement/momentum generates a swing with the shifting of the weight and turn. In the process, the body keeps moving and becomes light. Expansion and contraction of the entire body needs to be maintained with the movements and breath. While raising the hands, inhale and while dropping them, exhale. You are in a state of no resistance, no letting go.
Separate the full from empty…..The sacrum gradually moves inside the well of the full foot. As the weight begins to sink down, it begins to create the movement in the hand. As one goes downward, to establish the root, the other goes upward in direct proportion, to create mobility. Both the hips need to be moved in unison continuously. The hip that is full moves backward and the one that is empty moves forward. The three bows need to be connected….the spine, shoulder to fingertip, and the hip to the foot. Every bow has in store its own potential energy and the movement of each of thee three bows in dependent on one another such as through the joints. The above- mentioned ideas need to be connected to full and empty in opposing the hands and feet. The empty foot needs to be checked by lifting it before you begin to shift your weight. Tui Shou…the two turns become one.
Movement originates from the waist….The waist becomes the guide. The movement begins from the waist, irrespective of whether it is a hand movement or a step. Let every movement stem from the waist and it needs to remain relaxed, commencing, controlling, leading and apportioning the direction and amount of energy transmitted. The sacrum needs to be go very close to the whole hip as it guides all the movement. As the body moves like a unit, you turn like an axle tree and your movement follows a wheel. As the wheel is in motion, all the pieces move together from the central equilibrium point located at the bottom of the sacrum. The sacrum then turns the hips like a spiral into the foot which then begins to function through the fingers. There are nine joints and one turn…wrist to ankles, knees to elbows, and hips to the shoulders. Each joint moves in an interdependent manner as the waist turns being its central hub. The smaller joints move proportionately to the waist (the central part) with the proportions expanding as they move away farther from the waist. Instead of moving the hands, move only the waist.
The body as a whole moves as one unit….The body in its entirety should move as a unified whole, not just a hand, arm or a leg individually. They all move collectively as one unit. Once a part of your body moves, the other parts need to be in movement. The whole then should be in motion. And as you come to stillness, every part needs to attain a stillness.
The movements are performed with smoothness, leaving no room for unevenness…There is continuity without any disruption. Every Tai Chi movement is performed with great smoothness. The movements are never in haste or slowing down. There is no such thing as beginning or ending.
A distinction needs to be maintained between the significant and insignificant….Movement is the outcome of a single weighting. This implicates that a person’s weight is never maintained in an equal manner over both the legs. One leg is always comparatively heavy than the other one. To be agile effectively, we can maintain one point of significant contact with the ground and we attain the ability to move fast. Its comparable to a ball that can be in motion swiftly across the ground as it maintains only one point of contact with it.
The breath should originate deeply from the lower abdomen and needs to harmonize with the movements….The breath needs to be deep and full as you fill yourself from Tan tien (a little below the navel). Every movement is connected with the breath so with the expansion in the body, there is an exhalation. And when there is a contraction, there is n inhalation. As the breath is linked to gradual movements, your breathing necessarily will also be gradual and unhurried.
The mind guides the body…..In Tai Chi, the focus is placed on the mind rather than on compulsion. The mind is engaged to direct all the movements and then the body follows. With the mind being fully conscious and aware, and focused on every single point on the path of the entire movement and every point of the body. The mind leads the body essentially.

Orthomolecular medicine
Orthomolecular medicine, as conceptualized by double-Nobel laureate Linus Pauling, aims to restore the optimum environment of the body by correcting
imbalances or deficiencies based on individual biochemistry, using substances natural to the body such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, trace elements and fatty acids. "

"A number of other molecular diseases have been described, such as phenylketonuria, in which an enzyme deficiency allows the accumulation of the amino acid phenylalanine in the body, leading to mental and physical problems. Galactosemia is another molecular disease. In afflicted infants, the sugar galactose accumulates because of a missing enzyme, causing mental and physical manifestations. Both of these illnesses arise from abnormalities in the amounts or the structure of enzymes, and by the late 1950s, Pauling had become increasingly interested in the role of enzymes in brain function. Thanks to funding from the Ford Foundation, he started to explore the biochemistry and molecular basis of mental illness. He learned about changes in mental function that precede the overt B vitamin deficiency diseases—pellagra, pernicious anemia, and beriberi—and later learned about the work of two psychiatrists, Abram Hoffer and Humphry Osmond, who were reporting success in treating schizophrenics with niacin, the B vitamin that prevents pellagra. "Dietary supplements at high doses as part of medical therapy have been controversial, but the evidence suggests that they play a significant role in prevention and treatment of diseases as well as protection from accelerated aging that results from oxygen free-radical damage, inflammation, and glycation. This literature review examines several supplements that have documented roles in medical therapy, including vitamins C and E, coenzyme Q10, alpha-lipoic acid, chromium, L-carnitine, and quercetin. The evidence shows benefits in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, congestive heart failure, age-related deterioration of brain function and vision, and immune function, as well as other age-related health problems."

"Mental Health Treatment That Works
(OMNS) Doctors report that mental health problems including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, anti-social and learning disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorders often have a common cause: insufficient nutrients in the brain. Nutritionally-oriented physicians assert that the cure for these problems is to give the body the extra nutrients it needs, especially when under abnormal stress.
Orthomolecular medical researchers say the future of psychiatry is in nutrition because nutrition has such a long, safe and effective history of correcting many mental problems. Nutrients such as the B-vitamins are most successful when taken regularly, taken in relatively high doses, and taken in conjunction with vitamin C, the essential fatty acids (EFA’s), and the minerals magnesium and selenium.
A summary of what has worked for many people follows below.
Taking 1,000 mg of vitamin B-3 three times a day often cures mild to moderate depression. Dramatic results are often achieved within one week of beginning this nutritional program, especially in alcoholics. (1)
Sometimes a simple deficiency of vitamin D causes depression. 3,000 I.U./day from all sources can alleviate the problem. (2)
3,000 mg/day or more of niacin (vitamin B-3), along with the same quantity of vitamin C, taken in divided doses throughout the day can successfully treat
both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. (3)
Vitamins B-3, B-6, C and the minerals magnesium and zinc frequently produce a good response in ADHD and autistic children. (4)
Vitamins B-6, folate, and B-12 taken together lower elevated homocysteine levels in the elderly while improving mental function. (5)"

What is DNA ACTIVATION?---A pathway to a higher consciousness
The DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) holds the essential blueprint for all biological life, and consists of a sugar base, phosphates, and a sequencing of nucleotides. It contains the encoded information for both your physical and spiritual lineages. This encoded information determines your physical form, hereditary maladies, mental proclivities, emotional behavioural patterns, spiritual gifts, and more.
Our present physical DNA contains two strands, which hold the genetic codes for our physical evolvement. However, there are an additional ten strands that remain dormant until they are activated. We have 10 non-physical strands of DNA also. These non-physical strands are all about spirituality, psychic gifts, emotions, memories and things that are non-physical in our lives. Once those 10 strands have been activated energetically, it will also revitalize your youth and vitality chromosome.
These spiritual DNA codes are our cosmic connection to the universal life force, connecting Spirit with the human genetic code. During the activation of these dormant strands, the development of our spiritual DNA is facilitated. After the activation of 12 strand DNA, emotions, beliefs, and behavior patterns that no longer serve your life anymore can be removed, and replaced with the vibrational frequencies of divine light and love. It is a belief that when your DNA is fully engaged and active , then it becomes possible to experience many things.
These are the following benefits of DNA activation:
An energized, reinvigorated and youthful feeling.
A increase in the levels of enthudiasm for the performance of daily chores.
Create new patterns of behavior so as to overwrite the old patterns.
Develop your intuitive abilities.
Strengthening, refining and deepening your meditation.
Increase your extrasensory perceptive abilities.
Activated DNA is said to strengthen your immune system and enhance your effectiveness in daily life. By strengthening the immune system your cells have greater capacity to heal more quickly. Cells that heal more quickly are in a position to communicate effectively with each other and this leads to greater creativity.
In addition to providing you with a more controlled and powerful body, DNA activation is believed to open the activated person to their inner sight (clairvoyance) and improve internal communicative abilities with your multi-dimensional ‘Self’. Other reported effects are that the fully activated person is able to move outside time.
What are the benefits of DNA Activation?
Empowers you to bring forth unrealized talents and abilities .
Enables you to be more energetic.
Brings a sense of clarity into your life.
The immune system is strengthened.
Releases storage of unconscious patterns within the physical body.
Increases utilization of your inherent brain power.
Creates greater opening for ongoing connection with your Higher Self.
Clears your individual and family karmic patterns.
Raises the vibration at cellular levels.
Some experience a flu-like feeling as your body begins detoxifying. Your immune system will be strengthened and your body will be detoxified. Identification of dysfunctional patterns and strengthening of functional ones will be possible. Your cells will have a greater ability to heal at a much faster pace . Communication on a intracellular level is strengthened. There is a heightening in your intuition and clairvoyance. The process of moving outside of linear time can be started .You will be more energetic,and will be more youthful .Your memory will become sharper and your communication will become more precise. You will stay focused and will have a better understanding of the meaning and your purpose in life .
You can access specific cell memories stored inside your body.Healing is possible where a past experience related to the stressful issues you are addressing is stored, by releasing the emotional or traumatic issues held deep inside the cell, and then perform cellular re-patterning which will enable the body and emotions to go through the healing process and recover to their natural state of well being.
You get access to the levels of the brain which resonate to the frequencies of the higher dimensions, and tapping into the Light of wisdom and cosmic information can be attained which was being stored there. Upon the activation of the master glands within the brain, you revive the connection with the aspects of yourself that was in a dormant stage for thousands of years. The vibration of your entire body is shifting to a frequency on a higher level during cellular transformation. Through subconscious reprogramming and cellular repatterning it is possible to heal on a physical, emotional and spiritual levels in such an empowered way that it can access your own inner wisdom and profound thoughts. Brain patterns that are no longer functioning will be re- routed.
In the field of cellular biology it was discovered that whenever we have an intense, powerful emotion that we repress or shut down, specific chemical changes take place in our bodies. These can impact certain cell receptors, cause a blockage in intracellular communication in our bodies.If these affected cells remain blocked over a long period of time then there is an much greater likelihood that if any ailment occurs, it will occur in the part of the body where the cell receptors are blocked.
Health Effects of Short Term and Long Term Stress
"While short term, or acute, stress can serve a beneficial physiological purpose, chronic, or long term, stress, unfortunately, can deplete your health. In addition to causing oxidative stress, sustained catecholamine release can subject you to chronically elevated blood pressure, or hypertension, which is a risk factor for cardiovascular problems such as heart failure and sudden death. Too much stress can lead you down the road of burnout, and maybe steer you toward an imbalanced
ANS, or even a systematic disorder.
If you are chronically stressed, you might initially notice it through symptoms such as headache, achy neck, ulcer, allergies, and diminished sexual desire. Eventually, your body will adapt to continued vigilance by producing excess cortisol. Too much cortisol, over time, can exhaust you, accelerate the aging process, harm your immune system, and even damage your brain. Such hormonal overdose may result from stressing your adrenal glands to the brink of exhaustion.
Besides stressful situations, if you suffer from other conditions such as anxiety, depression, diabetes, hypertension, insulin resistance, obesity, and sleep

STRESS HORMONE AFFECTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
"A new UCLA study suggests the decline in an individual’s immune system after facing chronic stress is due to the stress hormone cortisol. Scientists found that cortisol suppresses immune cells’ ability to activate their telomerase, an enzyme within the cell that keeps immune cells young by preserving their telomere length and ability to continue dividing. Every cell contains a tiny clock called a telomere, which shortens each time the cell divides. Short telomeres are linked to a range of human diseases,
including HIV, osteoporosis, heart disease and aging. The influence of cortisol on telomerase, may explain why the cells of persons under chronic stress have shorter telomeres. The study also reveals how stress makes people more susceptible to illness.
The findings also suggest a potential drug target for preventing damage to the immune systems of persons who are under long-term stress, such as caregivers to chronically ill family members, as well as astronauts, soldiers, air traffic controllers and people who drive long daily commutes.
“When the body is under stress, it boosts production of cortisol to support a “fight or flight” response,” explains Rita Effros, professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. “If the hormone remains elevated in the bloodstream for long periods of time, though, it wears down the immune system. We are testing therapeutic ways of enhancing telomerase levels to help the immune system ward off cortisol’s effect. If we’re successful, one day a pill may exist to strengthen the immune system’s ability to weather chronic emotional stress.”

"EFFECTS OF CORTISOL
Cortisol is released in response to stress.
Insulin
Cortisol counteracts insulin, contributes to hyperglycemia-causing hepatic gluconeogenesis and inhibits the peripheral utilization of glucose (insulin resistance) . However, cortisol increases glycogen synthesis (glycogenesis) in the liver
Gastric and renal secretion
Cortisol stimulates gastric-acid secretion
Immune system
Cortisol can weaken the activity of the immune system.
Bone metabolism.
Cortisol reduces bone formation, favoring long-term development of
osteoporosis. Cortisol also reduces calcium absorption in the intestine
Memory
Cortisol works with epinephrine (adrenaline) to create memories
of short-term emotional events; this is the proposed mechanism for storage of flash bulb memories, and may originate as a means to remember what to avoid in the future. However, long-term exposure to cortisol damages cells in the hippocampus;this damage results in impaired learning. Furthermore, it has been shown that cortisol inhibits memory retrieval of already stored information.
ADDITIONAL SIDE EFFECTS
Increases blood pressure by increasing the sensitivity of the vasculature to epinephrine and norepinephrine; in the absence of cortisol, widespread vasodilation occurs.
Inhibits secretion of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), resulting in feedback inhibition of ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic hormone or corticotropin) secretion.
Shuts down the reproductive system, resulting in an increased chance of miscarriage and (in some cases) temporary infertility. Fertility returns after cortisol levels return to normal. There are potential links between cortisol, appetite and obesity
STRESS AND WEIGHT GAIN
"Cortisol is a critical hormone with many actions in the body. Normally, cortisol is secreted by the adrenal glands in a pattern called a diurnal variation, meaning that levels of cortisol in the bloodstream vary depending upon the time of day (normally, cortisol levels are highest in the early morning and lowest around midnight).
Cortisol is important for the maintenance of blood pressure as well as the provision of energy for the body. Cortisol stimulates fat and carbohydrate metabolism for fast energy, and stimulates insulin release and maintenance of blood sugar levels. The end result of these
actions can be an increase in appetite.
Cortisol has been termed the "stress hormone" because excess cortisol is secreted during times of physical or psychological stress, and the normal pattern of cortisol secretion (with levels highest in the early morning and lowest at night) can be altered. This disruption of cortisol secretion may not only promote weight gain, but it can also affect where you put on the weight. Some studies have shown that stress and elevated cortisol tend to cause fat deposition in the abdominal area rather than in the hips. This fat deposition has been referred to as "toxic fat" since abdominal fat deposition is strongly correlated with the development of cardiovascular disease including heart attacks and strokes."
